A Nation of Evil Men 2

Recently at Tattooed Mom's, a bar on South Street in Philadelphia, the Phantom Hand crew had another show after the gallery's closing in August this year. The goal of the show was to depict figures in history who the Artist feels are...well, evil. I had a tough time coming up with anyone this year...initially I was going to depict Kim Jong Un, mostly as I think he was fun to draw...

But I had a hard time making an actual illustration featuring the guy. A lot of other ideas floated through my head, then for some reason while on the internet I remembered a t-shirt I saw on a news article being worn by a plainclothes police officer, that said "We Wake Up Early...To Beat The Crowds"...that brought to mind a lot of over the top imagery that I decided to put on the page...

This has a bit of a Marshall Law by Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill thing going.

I colored 'em all in and made a little montage here....probably should have depicted a scene  with pepper spray in there...maybe later.

All Colored in!

The show was a fun time with lots of interesting pieces. I was thinking of adding some temporary tattoos of these guys at some point.

Hot Dog Arts

I did these a few months ago for a show at Hot Diggity, a delicious hot dog restaurant in Philadelphia. They revolve around my obsession with detective fiction and silly fast food mascots. I tried coloring in the line art again in Photoshop and I think I dig how this coloring method works. You can see these two at Hot Diggity, along with a lot of other great artwork, and stay to try delicious hot dogs, fries and home made sodas, if you're in Philly.

Loud Mouth Zine

I recently had the chance to do the cover illustration for Loud mouth zine. Fellow artist James Heimer did some posters that will be inserted into copies of the zine, check them out here. Thanks out to James and Joe Bues for the gig. I had a lot of fun working on it. If you come across a copy pick it up!

Line is Drawn Entries

I Participated in the recent Line is Drawn competition on Comic Book Resources. Needless to say I didn't make it, but I did enjoy making these too. The top is The Incredible Hulk Teaming up with O.M.A.C. against The Leader. The second is the characters from the manga Lone Wolf and Cub as super-heroes.

Pulp Love

Some local Philly artist friends and I have been running a gallery space in Philadelphia, Phantom Hand, on 604 South Street.

Recently, our show theme was Pulp Love, in which we had pulp themed pieces with a romantic twist. I did the show card, check it out! I put the call out on social media to have someone put on lipstick and kiss a piece of paper, then scan me the kisses, and the call was answered! If you are in or around Philly, check out Phantom hand! We feature many local Philadelphia artists' work, and are pretty chill and awesome doods.

Weird Punk

I did this with a Sharpie on a piece of Staples printer paper and liked it enough to throw some colors on it. It looks a little like what a mutant from The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller if he were maybe drawn by Jack Kirby.

Drawn To Letters

The Philadelphia Cartoonist Society invited me to participate in their latest show, Drawn to Letters at Brave New Worlds in Olde city, where each member would be selected to depict a letter from the alphabet. I got the letter G, and wanted to share the gradual process that got me to my final...I started out w some thumbnails:
I orignally either wanted to do a montage of G-Men type characters, or a letter G-themed superhero, G-man if you will...I went so far as to doodle some superhero stuff in ink on tracing paper...

Something about these just did not speak to that Eamon inside, who says "YEAH! NOW THIS PIECE I WANT TO FINISH!" So sally forth I did, until I drew this guy...

And I decided a medieval scene with giants could be a fun thing to do...so I went with it!

After I 'figured things out' I went to the tracing paper, then transferred it to board and inked it up. I kind of wanted to go for a Groo the Wanderer style image...I don't know if I succeeded, but I enjoyed working on the piece!

And there you have it! Enjoy! And if you are in the area come to the show!

Punisher coffe shop doodle.

The Punisher has fast become one of my favorite Marvel characters, his stories are a mix of awesome action movie level violence, absurdity and pathos. This weekend while killing some time in Olde city, I stopped by the Olde City Coffee Cafe in Philadelphia and busted this out, no reference or anything, just something to keep my hands busy. I got this fat brush pen to ink it with, and considering all of that I thought it turned out fairly well! I forgot what his kid's names were though...

Space Dudes

I did a strip with these characters, the Space Dudes, a while back. It was just a random thing I did on a staples printer paper sheet that I never revisited, with some characters I enjoyed the drawing. I tried to revisit...but rather than just continue the strip I started I drew one up on tracing paper and just worked it up to the ink stage all on tracing paper...basically something to get me drawing. In any case here it is!

Artificial Dissemination

Heya Gang,

So last Saturday was the Artificial Dissemination show, at Masthead print studio, and here are some photos I took at the event. Above is my piece PRINT LIVES "in the wild" as it were all framed up.

Above is the wall I was on, I am surrounded by awesome artists, including the always impressive work of Alex Eckman-Lawn (directly under my piece) and Jennifer Gin (to the right of Alex's piece). Awesome and intimidating company!

Here is another section of some awesome work, with 2 pieces by James Heimer, show curator and screen printer extraordinaire! (He also hand pulled the prints for my contribution). Also a sweet print by Anthony Pedro!

Above we have another section of amazing prints, with work by poster machine Mike Wohlberg, Jeffro Kilpatrick and a collab with Patch and Melissa Lomax!

Not a bad turn out, eh?A big thanks to Shawn Hileman at Masthead and James Heimer, and everyone who came out to the show! I am humbled with the chance to show my work with so many amazing artists. The show is up for a month if you are in the Philadelphia area, check it out!

Print Lives!

A piece I did (the very top one) along with a collage thumbnail using various sketch materials, for the upcoming show at Masthead Print studio, Artificial Dissemination! This image was done on smooth Bristol board, lots of layers of tracing paper and ink. It had to be a propaganda piece, and I decided to try my hand at a pro-paper/anti e-reader message in light of print being dead and all. The image was screen printed by James Heimer (and they look fantastic, thanks James!) I was pretty happy with how the piece turned out, but definitely need to try my hand at more type/poster layout.

Crowd scene

I did this sketch while trying to come up with a poster idea for an upcoming show I will be participating in at Masthead print studio...I did not end up using these guys for the piece but I may have to color this and use it for something else.

Takeshi Kitano

Here is a quick Portrait of one of my favorite film directors, Takeshi Kitano. I did this with a Pentel GFKP pen, which gives me these really brushy lines. Kitano has a new movie called Outrage which competed at Cannes, I am curious if it would get a release here in the states.

The Bile Knight of the Black Landscape

"The Black Landscape is a charred and dark plane of slag, a stranger to life itself, barren and silent. Beneath the charcoal heaps of land boils primordial energy, molten life-blood of the earth itself. The ooze churns mixes and bubbles until it breaks the blackened surface and shoots upwards. A soggy lump of flesh falls upon the dead ground, and a humanoid shape shambles upward on two feet. The form is covered in boils and scars, armor is molded, bent to his misshapen core. The Black Landscape has birthed it's knight. It knows, and it chooses. Those it chooses, die."

A new character I am throwing ideas around, wrote this quick origin for him. Enjoy!

Dinostuffs

So here is a bunch of preliminary sketching for a new show I will be in, The Age of Reptiles, at Paradigm Gallery. My final piece might not actually use any of this stuff...but I thought I'd share.
