Line is Drawn Entries

I Participated in the recent Line is Drawn competition on Comic Book Resources. Needless to say I didn't make it, but I did enjoy making these too. The top is The Incredible Hulk Teaming up with O.M.A.C. against The Leader. The second is the characters from the manga Lone Wolf and Cub as super-heroes.

Pulp Love

Some local Philly artist friends and I have been running a gallery space in Philadelphia, Phantom Hand, on 604 South Street.

Recently, our show theme was Pulp Love, in which we had pulp themed pieces with a romantic twist. I did the show card, check it out! I put the call out on social media to have someone put on lipstick and kiss a piece of paper, then scan me the kisses, and the call was answered! If you are in or around Philly, check out Phantom hand! We feature many local Philadelphia artists' work, and are pretty chill and awesome doods.

Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies

I was fortunate enough to be asked to work on the Album art for the new Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies album, The Flood. I also did the design for the T-shirt and type on a poster, the printing came out really nicely, and their album release show was spectacular! Check out the band:

DEBT: You owe. Pay.

Some sketches for a recent graphic novel idea, a sci fi story about a man working off a debt on some implants he got for his two dearest friends, that prevent these odd contraptions from depleting their motivation...Kinda weird but here are some sketches...

Weird Punk

I did this with a Sharpie on a piece of Staples printer paper and liked it enough to throw some colors on it. It looks a little like what a mutant from The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller if he were maybe drawn by Jack Kirby.

The Horror at Redhook

I was invited to participate in a group art show by an old friend of mine, Sam Heimer, of works influence by H.P. Lovecraft. The piece that was chosen for me was "The Horror at Red hook" which is basically a story about a cop who is afraid of Big buildings and foreigners, because in the story they gather in them to perform arcane rituals and bring a reclusive weirdo youth again, and summon some glowing god of evil. The story is somewhat infamous for some of its content, but I went for it anyway, starting with some sketches.

With the above I was focusing on the creepy old man, and for some reason I thought that that was too narrow a focus? I do very much enjoy drawing craggy, creepy old men for some reason, but I wanted to capture the feel of the story a bit more. I went off on one of my wild tangents and eventually worked up something to almost finished levels...

I am really liking how the character in the foreground, but not enough reference and just kind of a boring background made me not really like this piece. On the advice of some artist friends, I decided I wanted to capture more aspects of the story, the strange orgies, the paranoid cop, and the reverse aging of the evil old man.

I started with this...and ended up with:

Enjoy!

Drawn To Letters

The Philadelphia Cartoonist Society invited me to participate in their latest show, Drawn to Letters at Brave New Worlds in Olde city, where each member would be selected to depict a letter from the alphabet. I got the letter G, and wanted to share the gradual process that got me to my final...I started out w some thumbnails:
I orignally either wanted to do a montage of G-Men type characters, or a letter G-themed superhero, G-man if you will...I went so far as to doodle some superhero stuff in ink on tracing paper...

Something about these just did not speak to that Eamon inside, who says "YEAH! NOW THIS PIECE I WANT TO FINISH!" So sally forth I did, until I drew this guy...

And I decided a medieval scene with giants could be a fun thing to do...so I went with it!

After I 'figured things out' I went to the tracing paper, then transferred it to board and inked it up. I kind of wanted to go for a Groo the Wanderer style image...I don't know if I succeeded, but I enjoyed working on the piece!

And there you have it! Enjoy! And if you are in the area come to the show!
